What not to do to be happier at work

People are always giving advice on what you need to do in order to increase your happiness levels. So what about thinking in terms of what you don’t need to do? A recent article has listed 10 things that are worth considering giving up:
1.       Blaming
We are all human – people make mistakes. Wasting time blaming others for their mistakes is not only going to make them feel worse but it is also not going to achieve anything. Help to rectify the mistake, help to ensure it doesn’t help again. This will make you feel much happier in the long term.

2.       Impressing
The best way to shine in any environment, not just work, is to be yourself. Be genuine, be successful and be gracious. It will make you a better person.

3.       Clinging
“Holding on to what you think you need won’t make you happier; letting go so you can reach for and try to earn what you want will.”

4.       Interrupting
It’s rude and it’s not going to win you any respect. Listen to what others have to say, pause before you speak, be in control of your conversation without being domineering. You will have a lot more people on your side because of it.

5.       Whining
Not only does this make everyone around you feel miserable de-motivated, it makes you feel ten times worse. It is not always easy but try to focus on the positives instead of whining about the negatives.

6.       Controlling
Some would say that control is power and for a lot of people power equals happiness. But power is temporary and control is short lived. Instead of trying to be the one person that controls everything, share the load. It’s amazing how good it will make you feel.

7.       Criticizing
Constructive criticism is something everyone needs to be better but constant criticism is going to wear others, and you, down. No one is perfect – accepting that changes everything.

8.       Preaching
Preaching can be pretty condescending and people will stop listening. Giving out advice is one thing, preaching is quite another.

9.       Dwelling
You can’t change the past so move on, and be better.

10.   Fearing
Of all the things that is going to make you unhappy, I believe that fear is the greatest. Life is uncertain, it’s a complete unknown. But instead of letting that scare you, let it excite you. Tomorrow is a new adventure – enjoy it!
