The Benefits of Gratitude

On this Thanksgiving Day,  people across America and the Cayman Islands will gather with their families for  the traditional Thanksgiving meal to reflect on the past year and to express appreciation and gratitude for each other and for the good things their lives. In thinking about this, I started to wonder how many people practiced the 'Attitude of Gratitude' all year long and I've found some interesting, scientific information on the benefits of gratitude for both adults, children and teens. For example according to Psychology Today, adults who cultivate thankfulness are happier and less likely to suffer from depression and mood disorders. Likewise, the American Psychological Association reports that grateful children and teens were more likely to have a positive mental attitude with increased levels of happiness and satisfaction and decreased levels of substance abuse and behavioral problems. To learn more about the health benefits of gratitude and to find tips on culivating your own 'Attitude of Gratitude' read 'Let Gratitude Bring back your Smile' and 'Growing up Grateful'. You'll be thankful you did!

None is more impoverished than the one who has no gratitude. Gratitude is a currency that we can mint for ourselves, and spend without fear of bankruptcy. - Fred De Witt Van Amburgh

At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us. - Albert Schweitzer
