What is your passion? What are you really here for?

I recently read an inspiring article by Anthony Robins, Chairman at Anthony Robbins Holdings, Inc. In the article he covers everything from discovering the difference between passion and hunger to finding your true passion to getting results. His insight is incredibly thought provoking so I thought I would share. What are your thoughts on Tony’s top tips?

1.     What's the difference between passion and hunger?
Tony tells us that “Passion is first gear; it will get you going, but hunger is the ticket that will take you there. It’s human nature to get excited about big dreams; it’s easy to spark the fires of passion, especially when you’re young. But sooner or later, when it comes time to get the job done, suddenly, our level of excitement wanes because we’re all afraid of one thing: failure.” He goes on to describe how the key to getting over the fear of failure is definitely hunger. If you set your mind to something, the fear of failing becomes less of an issue but you have to really want it.
2.     Finding your true passion
On this note, Tony suggest that the main response he gets when asking people about their true passion is that people do not know how to find their true passion. On this he says “The fastest way to find your true passion is to commit to something you have an interest in. Really immerse yourself in the environment, don't just dabble.” It is a very good point, we often try a little something in one field and then fall into another completely different field but never really give 100% to the industry we are actually truly interested in. “Volunteer with your whole heart” he tells us, go out there and rub shoulders or imitate those that have become perfectionists at it. If this does not work, try the opposite – figure out what kind of a career you would not like to have and work from there!
3.     Getting Results
Being the best at what you do, whether you provide a service or a product, is what will differentiate you from your competitors. Tony informs us that delivering measureable results will determine your success. People pay for results. Tony provides us with his own experience to illustrate “When I was 17, and just starting out, I had nothing — I had a desk I made by taking a door off its hinges and flipping it around in a crappy little room in Azusa, California. I took out a telephone and I vowed to make 100 calls a day to people I wanted to do business with. There were no excuses. I tracked my progress. I had nothing if not hunger, and I figured that as long as I stayed connected to my passion and felt that higher sense of purpose I’d get through to somebody. It was a disaster at first. But I stayed committed to mastery.”
So go figure out what you want from life, what actually is your passion, how are you going to get it and how are you going to achieve the results? In the words of Anthony Robbins in his article If I Were 22: Hunger Will Destroy Your Fear of Failure
